Alberto is a post-doctoral researcher in the Briscoe lab. In 2012 he graduated in physics at the University of Milano-Bicocca, and joined the M.Sc. in theoretical and computational physics between the University of Trento and the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste.

In 2014 he joined the Ph.D. program in statistical physics at SISSA, where he developed an interest in biological systems. His thesis work, “Optimal Search Strategies in Physics and Biology”, in the lab of Antonio Celani, explored applications of statistical mechanics and optimal control to navigation and search tasks, with particular focus on chemotaxis. In January 2019 he joined the Briscoe lab at The Crick, where he’s combining analytical and computational tools for stochastic processes and optimization to address questions about morphogen interpretation and cell signalling in pattern formation during development.
